Orienteering Workshop

Date: 28th February, 2025

An engaging and informative Orienteering Workshop was successfully conducted to create awareness and build understanding of the sport among sports coordinators. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 25 participants, reflecting a strong interest in expanding knowledge of this dynamic outdoor sport.

The session introduced the fundamentals of orienteering, including map reading, compass usage, route planning, and navigation strategies. A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on map-making activity, where participants learned the basics of mapping techniques and symbols used in orienteering. Each participant actively engaged in creating their own simple orienteering map of the surrounding area, gaining practical experience in surveying, observation, and translating terrain features onto a map. This activity provided valuable insight into the technical aspects involved in organizing an orienteering event.

We were especially honored to host three international participants from the Hokkaido University Orienteering Club, Japan. Their presence added immense value to the workshop as they shared their experiences, training methodologies, and the vibrant orienteering culture in Japan. Their contribution brought an international perspective and enriched the learning experience for all attendees.

The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion session, where participants explored possibilities for organizing orienteering events and promoting the sport at various levels. The event marked a significant step toward strengthening the orienteering ecosystem and fostering collaboration both locally and internationally.

We look forward to organizing more such initiatives to promote orienteering and encourage active participation in this exciting and intellectually stimulating sport.
